My Favourite Brunei Traditional Foods


Kuih Bahulu
Kuih Bahulu is traditionally bruneian food, it will be served during the Hari Raya and Chinese New Year. The moulds were made from cast-iron with a lid, of which lighted charcoal will be on it. Baking is done by putting the mould over charcoal. Thank goodness for the oven, otherwise the younger generation will not be introduced to these food.




Ambuyat
Ambuyat is a dish derived from the interior trunk of the sago palm. It is a starchy bland substance, similar to tapioca starch. Ambuyat is a national dish of Brunei, and become a local delicacy in the Malaysian states of Sarawak and Sabah and also the federal territory of Labuan where it is sometimes known as linut.







Kuih Cincin
Kuih cincin is one of Brunei’s traditional delicacies that I personally like and favourite to us all. Kuih cincin is a recipe that originates from part Brunei Malay society, now kuih cincin can be found in Brunei. Cincin derived from Malay language means ring, kuih cincin is round in shape that looks like a collection of rings with addition the orange colour that looks like a gold ring.



Pulut Panggang
Pulut panggang is a delicious savory snack made from glutinous rice steamed with coconut milk. Sink your teeth into one them and be pleasantly surprised by the aromatic fillings of spiced prawn and grated coconut. Pulut Panggang are wrapped with banana leaves and are finally grilled to perfection for the wonderful smoky flavors.







Wajid
The traditional Bruneian kueh wajid is a sweet Malay confection made of beras jawa, or Javanese glutinous rice.
